Popular Processes used to Make Hand Stamp

Making of rubber and Hand stamp is a specialized process. There are a variety of options available for making hand stamps. Some of the most popular processes include:

Laser engraving

One of the most popular way, laser engraving I often used to design rubber stamps in a CO2 laser engraver. This process is extremely precise, accurate and much quicker. The design is then sent to the laser which is further connected with the computer through a usb port.

A sheet of stamps which is usually A4 sheets are places in the laser which is further calibrated to the rubber thickness. The laser works in the same manner as a printed when connected with a computer. It engraves and cuts the stamp and the custom made hand stamp is ready to use.

Once the stamp has been cut, the rubber dust covered rubber from the cutting and the engraving process is washed and thoroughly cleaned. It is further stuck to the self inking stamp handle which has an ink pad inserted into the stamp. The stamp is now ready for use.

Polymer rubber stamp making

The process of designing polymer rubber stamp is quiet easy. In this process, a photopolymer liquid which is reactive to UV light is put and it hardens when exposed. A negative can be made easily and it allows the UV light to pass through the stamp images.

The negative and the polymer is usually exposed and the excess polymer is washed off. This leaves you with a custom rubber stamp.

Flash stamps

Have you heard about flash stamps before? If no, you can also get customized flash stamps quickly as designing them is a fast and quick process. This is a type of photographic process which include use of flash foam which is photosensitive rubber. The image of the customized made stamp is them transferred onto the flash foam which is further micropourous and thus retains ink.

Further the ink is applied to the flash foam until it is absorbed completely. The naked foam with the image on it is them mounted on the handle and the stamp is them ready to use. The flash stamp gives thousands of stamps before it is required to be reinked.

To start with, the main difference between the two is the quality of impression and the number of impressions offered by each stamp. While both are refillable and come in many colors, pre-inked stamps are believed to be of a little higher quality than its counterpart. Self-inking stamps are made of water-based ink while pre-filled stamps use oil-based ink.

Both these styles are not recommended on a glossy surface as they tend to smear leaving behind a blot of the ink with no clear impression. Moreover, pre-inked stamps generally last for 50,000 impressions before it is required to be refilled again. It comes with a lifetime guarantee and is often recommended for stamps that use a logo of a company as they offer clear impressions.

On the other hand, the self-inking stamp is often considered to leave behind a good quality image. It lasts for about 10,000 impressions before it is required to be refilled. It is economically priced and is often used as address stamp, signature stamp and very rarely as a logo stamp.

Stamping on a Curved Surface Made Easy

If you are in love with stamping, you must have thought about stamping on different surfaces. Have you ever thought about stamping on curved surfaces? Don’t be afraid to experiment. Moreover, it is extremely easy to stamp on curved surfaces with these simple tips.

Use small stamps

To begin with, you need to get your hands on small Self Inking Stamps as they are much easier to use on curved surfaces than large stamps. Pick up stamps that use a pattern built on several stamps rather than using one large stamp.

Don’t not over ink

Using a stamp filled with extra ink may slip on the curved surface. Therefore, it is important to achieve a balance between having enough ink and having too much ink. This is when having a self inking stamp help you strike the right balance.

Fill in the gaps

You can choose to fill in the gaps in your stamped image using a thin marker pen. However be careful as a slight mistake can ruin your complete design.

Use unmounted stamps

You can even choose to use unmounted stamps instead of using rigidly mounted stamps. Further, use your fingers to press the stamps to the surface to get a complete design.

Create a random design

If your stamped images are less than perfect, one way to disguise this is by building up an all over design using lots of stamped images. You can overlap the images if you like and this will soon hide any imperfections.

However, if you are still unable to achieve a perfect design, here are few other techniques that can help you with the stamping.

Stamp on a thin paper

Instead of stamping on a curved surface directly, you can choose to stamp on a thin paper and adhere this to the surface to achieve the desired result. You can use this technique to stamp on candles.

Decoupage

This is a variation on the above-said technique. Start by sticking small pieces of tissue paper and then use the decoupage technique to adhere the pattern to the surface. This is a great way to add decorations to surfaces which are uneven or very curved which would otherwise be difficult to stamp on.
